Chaves

Thermal Spa in Northern Portugal

In the green hills of northern Portugal, Chaves was a major city in Roman times, known then as Aquae Flaviae. Its hot springs, among the warmest in Europe, have been valued for their healing and relaxing effects for more than 2,000 years.

Today a modern thermal bath carries that legacy forward, while Roman landmarks such as the famous bridge over the Tâmega river remind visitors of the town’s ancient importance. Chaves combines deep history with the easy warmth of Portuguese hospitality.
