The Roman Thermal Spas of Europe are a network of thermal spas and health destinations of Roman origin — places that have stayed true to their purpose, dedicated to health, wellness and culture, for more than two thousand years.
A shared Roman story across Europe
From Chaves in Portugal to Băile Herculane in Romania, our member destinations all trace their springs back to the same source: the bathing culture the Romans carried across their empire. Each grew its own traditions over the centuries, yet all share a holistic understanding of well-being that joins medical competence, contemporary wellness and a rich cultural life.
This is a project about that common heritage — the history behind it, the spa culture it created, and the partners who help keep it alive today.
Two millennia of taking the waters
The Romans did not simply bathe. Their thermae were places of recreation, conversation and the arts as much as of health. Europe’s spa towns inherited that idea and never let it go — which is why a visit today still means far more than a treatment.
